Conscious Divine Feminine

The Divine Feminine shows up in every aspect of life. She is not a woman, she is the feminine qualities that will bring balance to the world, such as devotion, connectedness, relationality, intuition, receptivity, and fluidity. She is Mary, Mother of God, The Queen of Heaven, and She Who Confirms the Truth. She is our emotions, our sensuality, our bodies, and the cycles in and around us.
How many of us have been labeled ‘tomboy,’ or ‘too loud,’ or a ‘show off,’ for being our true selves? Consequently, we have felt diminished, small & wrong, retracted ourselves into a cramped dark space inside, & tried to be what others wanted us to be. A life of inauthenticity and people-pleasing ensued and robbed us of our natural joy.
“Hey, man.” “Hey, guys.” “Boy, am I tired.” Father, son, Holy Ghost: all men are created equal. Indeed, if a middle-aged white, reasonably attractive man walks into a room, he gets immediate respect. Everyone else has to earn it.
I invite you to live a different way. We deserve respect, and that begins with our boundaries, recognizing our power, living our values, and having self-compassion. There is no need to intellectualize about our situation and what to do about it, we must live it. We start by honoring Her within ourselves, living fearlessly, and loving and caring for ourselves, each other and the Earth. We must embody the Divine Feminine.
Several years ago, a friend, her daughter, my granddaughter, and I visited the Brooklyn Museum to see Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party. If you haven’t heard of it, I’ll just say it is the most compelling display of feminine power I have encountered. It consists of 39 place settings each honoring a woman in history. They consist of embroidered runners, chalices, utensils and sculped plates made in the style of the time period of the woman being honored. In addition, on the tile floor beneath this permanent installation are the names of another 999 women who have contributed immeasurably to our world. It is a beautiful, resonant, and celebratory depiction of women’s lives and value, something our culture lacks, unfortunately. You should go see it!
We took the girls to see The Dinner Party because we wanted them to see their femineity placed at the forefront of, and shown as valuable in, such a place that generally depicts male accomplishments-the history of our world. We, a grandmother and a mother, wanted to show them that we are aware of the momentous accomplishments of the women who came before us, on whose shoulders we stand, and whose lives we cherish.
Since that day I have kept a list of women who have recently made significant contributions to our world, women who may not be honored as they should, with the thought that we, my friend and I, could create our own piece of art someday. Here are a few of those women.
Misty Copeland-First black principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre
Janet Yellen-First female treasury secretary
Bianca Smith-First black female professional major league baseball coach
Ann Dunwoody-First female 4-star Army general
Cole Brauer-First woman to sail around the globe without stops
Ellen Ochoa-First female to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom
These women, all 1038 women depicted in The Dinner Party, and all women around the globe are a personal inspiration to me to practice authenticity in all that I do, say, honor, commit to and create. She/Her is my guide as I work to eradicate patriarchal holds on women’s sovereignty.
Please tell us about your heroines. It could be your grandmother, a woman who accomplished a ‘first,’ or a woman in history. Let’s raise awareness and help to bring balance to our world.
Our mother, who art with us, we celebrate your many names.
Your wisdom come, your will be done.
Unfolding from the depths within us.
Each day you give us all that we need.
You remind us of our limits & we let go.
You support us in our power & we act with courage.
For you are the dwelling place within us, the empowerment around us,
and the celebration among us.
As it was in the beginning, may it be now.
