Blue

Kali, the Mother of the Universe, is depicted with blue skin. The Divine Feminine energy of Kali is the source of all things. The sky, the ocean, and bluebirds are her symbols. Blue is the rarest color despite so many shades, hues and tints. Turquoise, teal, navy, cerulean, midnight, slate, baby, powder, periwinkle, cornflower, sky, aqua, sapphire, lapis, Prussian, cobalt, ultramarine, steel, azure, royal, indigo, pthalo, seafoam, denim.

We can feel blue, sing the blues, enjoy the blue hour, see a blue moon, have a blue-collar job, be a blue blood, or experience something out of the blue. We can have blue mind, a mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peacefulness, unity, satisfaction and a life inspired by water. Blue and white, blue and brown, blue & yellow. We are surrounded by blue. It is my favorite color!

All colors are beautiful, but what is it about blue that opens my heart to the moment? Is it the changing blues of the ocean as I sit on the high rocks and watch the waves? Is it the pale blue sky at dawn, or the dark blue of an approaching storm? Is it blueberries, bluestone, blue eyes, pool water, sapphires, or a robin’s egg?

I am a connoisseur of blue, almost always wearing something blue, choosing the blue item in a store, painting walls blue, (my kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom), loving my mother’s blue Spode dinnerware and rippled blue glasses, preferring sapphire jewelry.

Blue is the color of speaking and hearing the truth in the throat chakra. Blue, one of the three primary colors….mixed with purple makes indigo, with red it makes maroon, with yellow it makes green.

The Blue Man Group, Bluey the blue heeler puppy, blue states, the Blue Jays, Blue Ivy, Stella Blue, the Kelly Blue Book, Blue Velvet, wearing something blue at your wedding, and Song Sung Blue.

As a yoga teacher, these qualities are important in setting a calming atmosphere in my classes, so I usually wear blue, and my yoga studio is painted a Scandinavian blue-green. Did I already say, “I love blue?!”
